Good Afternoon

Hello friends~I hope you have all had a wonderful Friday. I spent mine in the little town we live nearest to--20 miles northeast of us--and got a bit of grocery shopping done, as well as had a nice visit with my parents. I met my dh on his lunch hour and we went to the park and did a little walking. I was excited to see that the little 'spring beauty' flowers have sprung up all over the ground, as well as some clover. Spring is certainly on its way!

I made these dish towels yesterday. I've never made them before, but they were easier than I had thought and I like the idea of 'customizing' the colors to go with my kitchen. Also, I really detest those 'terry' dish towels that they sell at Wal Mart~they just do not dry anything! I think I will be making my own 100% cotton towels from now on.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Wednesday

I know that I've been neglecting my blog~and I'm sorry I haven't been keeping up with it better. I have been trying to get some projects done around the house. My number one goal right now is to get my kitchen in good working order.

Buying for my kitchen is something that I love, but it is a small room and I am trying to limit myself to things that I really need. It can only hold so many tins and containers. I'm also trying to cut way back on my coffee habit, so I'm storing my large coffee maker under the counter and only keeping out the four cup maker. I'm the only one in the house that drinks coffee, so it should be plenty for what I need. And I love the idea of a little extra counter space.

I'm looking for any tips that might help with my storage in a small kitchen. If any of you have suggestions, I more than welcome them!

I keep thinking of our pioneer mothers that made do with a spider skillet, a few tin cups, a bowl or two, plates and very limited silverware. Remember how thrilled Laura and Mary Ingalls were when they got their very own cups for Christmas? Somehow, our 'easier' modern life has become more complicated. I'm not ready to go to only a spider skillet and bowl, but I am trying to organize and cut down.

I hope all of you are enjoying some good weather. It is sunny here today, but a little bit on the cool side~lower 50s.

Everyday Chores

Not much excitement going on around here today. It is another rainy day, with possible ice on the way tonight. I guess that silly old groundhog was right about six more weeks of winter! I suppose that it will be spring soon enough~I love dreaming of green grass and flowers whenever I pick up a seed catalogue.

I found this cute add for Ivory Soap in an old book. I love Ivory Soap! (Remember the song you sang about it when you were a kid?) It is one of the best stain removers that I've ever used. I learned of that use for it on a shopping trip to Wal Mart! The checker, noticing that I was buying a commercial stain remover, told me of her experience in using it on her clothing. I took her advice, and have used it ever since. Of course, it won't remove everything, but I've found it to do very well on protein stains as well as tea and cola. Rub it in, rinse with cold water, or just rub it on the stain and toss it in the washer.

I've been doing some other chores around the house, including a little bit of painting. I'll post some pictures when I get everything finished.

Everyone have a great day!

Poor Chicken Little

One day Chicken Little was walking in the woods when -- KERPLUNK -- an acorn fell on her head
"Oh my goodness!" said Chicken Little. "The sky is falling! I must go and tell the king."
The sky has been 'falling' all night! I'm beginning to sympathize with poor little chicken little. Rowdy, our cat, is hiding at this moment. When we get a hard rain, the din from the tin roof on the porch is quite overwhelming and he is just sure that the sky is falling!
It's Raining, It's Pouring (Nursery Rhyme)

Author: Unknown
It's raining, it's pouring;
The old man is snoring.
Bumped his headAnd he went to bed
And he couldn't get up in the morning.
Rain, rain, go away;
Come again another day;
Little Johnny wants to play.
I hope all of you are having some nice weather and can get out and play!

Day of Love

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you, my friends! I hope you all have a wonderful day with your own special Valentine. Hubby and I will be going out sometime this weekend to celebrate. We are a little too far back in the 'boonies' to go out during the week.
I am planning a special dessert. I'm still trying to decide which one!

The high today is in the 60s, so I am planning on finishing the painting I have to do to my kitchen trim. The high tomorrow is 30, so I'm taking the opportunity while it is here!

All of you have a wonderful day!

Back To Winter

After that line of horrific storms passed through the south earlier this week, we are back to some cold weather.
My in-laws live in one of the hardest hit areas here in AR and were both downtown when the tornado hit. We thank the Lord, they are both safe, as is their home, but there is much damage in their little town and several people were killed. It will be a long recovery for towns in AR, TN, and KY. So many people lost family members, friends, and neighbors. Please remember all of them in your prayers.

Monday Morning

There is not much going on around the cabin today. I've spent most of my time out in my dh shop with him, talking about ideas for projects. It's nice to have him home on a weekday, as it seems we don't get to spend much time together.

We did watch Miss Austen Regrets last night on our local PBS station. We are really enjoying the series and I know that I will miss it when it has finished!
