Lazy Saturday Afternoon

Hi everyone! I hope you've all had a wonderful week. Mine has been busy, busy. My brother and nephew were here for a little bit of R&R last week and weekend and my parents have been out to visit several times this week. I was also gone a couple of days.

I must say that I'm glad that Saturday is here and that I have a little bit of time to relax! I've spent some of today out in the workshop with my husband where he has a couple of projects going.

My back is much better and I hope to get the rest of my painting done this week--maybe!! It is a project that I am ready to be through with:) I did make a new shade and tried to take a picture of it, but the lighting is a problem and you really would not be able to tell a thing about it. I'll try again soon, as I want to post some pictures for all of you to see.

Everyone have a great weekend.

Soggy, Soggy!

The rain has stopped and the sunshine has returned! Everything is so soaked outside that you can't even walk without sliding in the mud now and then. The joys of clay soil.

The low water bridge at the end of our road was flooded out for a while yesterday and we were without electricity for a few hours. That seems to be a routine for us lately. If nothing else, it spurred me to add batteries to my grocery list. We've been out for a while and I keep forgetting about them--since we only seem to need them when the electricity is out. The Arkie in me, I guess!

Arkansas Traveler

Oh, once upon a time in Arkansas,
An old man sat in his little cabin door
And fiddled at a tune that he liked to hear,
A jolly old tune that he played by ear.

It was raining hard, but the fiddler didn't care,
He sawed away at the popular air,
Tho' his rooftree leaked like a waterfall,
That didn't seem to bother the man at all.

A traveler was riding by that day,
And stopped to hear him a-practicing away;
The cabin was a-float and his feet were wet,
But still the old man didn't seem to fret.
So the stranger said
Now the way it seems to me,
You'd better mend your roof, said he.
But the old man said as he played away,
I couldn't mend it now, it's a rainy day.

The traveler replied,
That's all quite true,
But this, I think, is the thing to do;
Get busy on a day that is fair and bright,
Then patch the old roof till it's good and tight.
But the old man kept on a-playing at his reel,
And tapped the ground with his leathery heel.
Get along, said he, for you give me a pain;
My cabin never leaks when it doesn't rain.

Have a great day,

Waiting For The Rainbow

It is a wet, wet, day today! We are expecting this all day and into tomorrow. Maybe even some storms later on. I went out earlier and took these pictures of the rain and fog on the mountain across from us. I love the way the fog weaves itself over the mountains as it drifts down to the valleys below.
All this rain got me thinking about the last time I saw a rainbow. It was a double rainbow. We saw it up in Northwest Arkansas in August. We were on the way to the airport to pick up our daughter, returning home from L.A..

When I was a kid, running outside to look for a rainbow was the first thing my brother and I would do when it stopped raining. It was almost like a contest to see which one of us could spot it first. Did you do that?

I don't go out and look for them anymore--but I should! They are such a beautiful sight and I'm thinking about how many of them I've missed through the years. They are truly a special, simple pleasure that I've been ignoring!
“May you always have work for your hands to do.
May your pockets hold always a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane.
May the rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.”

Top O' The Mornin' To Y'all

I just had to add a little bit of 'southerness' to my title today! It is a beautiful day here, at least for the time being. All this lovely sunshine will probably add some strength to the storms we are expecting a little later on, but I'll enjoy it while it is here and shining on us!

Thank you to all of you that asked about my back. It is getting better a little slower than I'd hoped, but progress is progress!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Good Morning!

We are having some really beautiful weather here today. It is going to be in the 70s by mid-afternoon! We are supposed to have thunderstorms tonight, and I'm hoping they won't be too severe. That is always the price we have to pay for warm weather during the day, this time of year.
We did a lot of work outside last week and I ended up pulling some muscles in my back, so I'm still recovering from that. I always try to do too much at once, so it is my own fault.

We did get the run for the chickens finished, so that little job is taken care of. We finished it just in time for the snowstorm to blow in. We got 8 1/2 inches of very wet snow, and lost several tree tops due to it. We also lost electricity for eighteen hours~not much fun after the first three or four hours!

I am working on some projects for my kitchen and hope to be able to show some of my work in a week or so. My bad back has put my painting at a standstill, but I hope to get back to it soon.

Hope you are all having a great day.

Back Again?????

Okay, I was wrong last post. I really thought that that blast of cold would be it for us this winter. WRONG!!!!! We are expecting even more tonight.

My poor flowers. I'm sure they just don't know what to think!!

We are hurrying to finish a little run for our chickens before the storm starts moving in this evening. The poor things have been locked in a small pen at night all winter. They are finally going to have a real chicken house to go into at night. Maybe this will keep Mr. Raccoon and Mr. Opossum away from them.

Guess I'd better get back outside and help hubby and dd.

Hope you are all having a great day.

I was going to post a picture, but I guess that Blogger is having a bad day:(

Winter Again--But Not For Long!

We awoke to a beautiful snowy morning. We had quite a bit of thunder during the night, but it never really looked like 'thunder' snow to me, when I would get up and peer out at the storm. It was coming down fast and furious, but I thought the flakes should have been bigger. Maybe I just expect too much!
My dh, off work for the week before starting a new job, took the pictures this morning. Most of the snow was melted by ten o'clock and we took off for the city north of us to get a little bit of grocery shopping done. I was disappointed that my favorite flea market was closed. Since most of the schools were closed due to the snow, a lot of private businesses closed, also. Maybe I'll get back up there later this week. I've got the 'thrift shopping bug fever' right now, LOL!

Hope you've all had a great day!
