Wednesday Afternoon

Good afternoon! I have not been lost in my closet all this time, LOL~just busy with some projects around the house.

Are any of you planning your garden, yet? We went to the saw mill in town yesterday and bought the cedar boards for our square foot gardening boxes. We've never done square foot gardening before, but I purchased the book last year and we've been reading over it since then.

I'm still working on my lists of what I want to get planted this year. I hope to order some seeds from the
Baker Creek Seed Company in MO. I'd love to visit their farm, as well, but don't know if we'll get to or not.

If you are interested in square foot gardening, you might enjoy
Mel Bartholomew's website.

Happy Gardening!

  1. Thanks for sharing Mel's website! I have given some thought to my garden, but in our neck of the woods, it will be quite some time yet, before we can even plant inside seeds. I do, however, get anxious to get started. We are hoping to expand our garden this year, so we'll have more to preserve. I think with our "economy and governmental choices" we are going to need to put up what food products we can... Even mulling over a beef cow or two. I'll have to check out you box garden later when you get it going.

  3. Planning our first garden here is what is getting me through this bitter cold weather, isn't it crazy! I've been looking for that book, even our library doesnt' have it. We want to try raised beds this year and I hear that book is the bible for it! I've been to the Baker Creek garden fair, such a neat place, all heirlooms, which we love to plant. Were going again this year, in April. If you get to go, let me know and we can there! Off to check out Mel's site, thanks!

  4. Our daughter and son in law have done this sort of gardening. We've talked about it. I think we could do this back by the fence, near the creek. I'll make a note of the website and J and I will have a look at it. I am the planner he is the gardener.

Have a great weekend! It's snowing here at the lake!

  8. Hello RoseMary,
It will be quite a while before I can think about gardening yet in my part of the country. The snow is up to my windows and although I don't mind it at all right now--it will be hard come May when the melting is slow. So, in the meantime I may force a few indoor bulbs to bring the Springtime in!
Your planed garden sounds so interesting--looking forward to pictures and updates!
So good to hear from you--thank you for the kind words left at the cabin!
    Thinking of you!

  10. I have done square foot gardening in the past on a small scale, then I went to raised beds but I may give it another try. Thank you for posting the two links. I will follow along here if you don't mind.

  11. I was so excited when I read that you're doing the square foot gardening. I just finished the videos this evening and am beginning to read the book. I am hoping on Wednesday to get the materials to make our boxes. I'm so excited but a bit nervous because I do not have a green thumb. But I want to soooo badly!

    I hope you'll share what you're doing.

    Smiles,
    Lea
