Sympathy For Miss Muffet

Little Miss Muffet

Little Miss Muffet, Sat on a tuffet, Eating her curds and whey. Along came a spider, Who sat down beside her, And frightened Miss Muffet away!

Until almost two weeks ago, I'm not sure I'd really seen a black widow spider up close. At least not in my house! Until my daughter found a dead one in our bathroom sink. A week later, I found another dead one in the bathroom window sill. (I did not take the picture of the one above!)

The first one, well we just assumed that it had somehow been brought in on someones clothing. A lot of things had been moved out of the goat barn, and that seemed the most logical explanation. But, I'd been painting the bathroom all week when I found the second one, so Wednesday, we fogged the house. I hope that is the end of our spider infestation! Since then, we've spent a lot of time washing everything and vacuuming the floors and furniture. I don't like to use poison, but this time, I thought it was necessary.

Have you ever had black widow spiders in your house?

  1. EEK! Never had one of those, we get the brown wood spiders though, especially in the fall months and I HATE them! Hubby found one down in the well house once that was HUGE. You did the right thing, don't want the black widows around, even one of the furbabies could get curious with it and get bit:( Hope you got them all, and have a great day!

  2. I would have wanted to fog my house too, gal!

I've never seen any in the house...I do have a deathly fear of black widows and brown recluse (fiddler) spiders.

    PS...my word verification is "amish"...LOL!

  3. I'm with Miss Muffet, only I'm running faster. I had a problem with spiders (thank goodness they weren't black widows) about a month ago when the heavy rains kicked in, and I had no problem using the chemical spray! Hope you got them all.

Have a great day, Rose Mary, and thank you so much for coming to visit me at my blog - your comments are always a joy to read.

  4. I have never had black widow spiders but I remember as a girl, my Grandmother had an "outhouse" and everytime we went into it, it was filled with the ugly things. I am not scared of spiders, persay but "Black widows" that is another spider. I hate them. Be careful, they can really hurt and make you sick. I hope you don't see anymore of the nasty creature. connie

  8. Not in the house. But today I was cleaning out a dresser I was preparing to paint and reached in to get out a cobweb then noticed egg sacks so looked closer and yuck a black widow. The first I can recall seeing. It was nice to be able to show the kids - this is dangerous don't ever touch one like it.
yuck hate spiders and all rodents.
