Sunday

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!! I hope all of you have enjoyed your special day.

I was reading about the history of Mother's Day and was surprised to read that wearing carnations is a of Mother's Day tradition. When I was growing up, we always wore roses on our Sunday dress. A red rose if your mother was living, white if she had passed away.

I've noticed the last few years that no one wears roses or any flowers anymore. Is it the same where you live?

Sunday

I hope that all of you have had a wonderful Sunday. It was very rainy here today and church attendance was down, but we had a beautiful service and enjoyed the time to worship with our church family.

I have been meaning to share some pictures with you from last Sunday afternoon. After church, we ate a fast lunch and then headed up to Fort Smith for Tales of the Crypt at Oak Cemetery. This is an event that is held twice a year, but this is the first time we've managed to make it, as it is quite a long drive.
Oak Cemetery is a beautiful place and we hope to go back one day to walk around it and study some of the beautiful tombstones, like the one above.

There were eleven characters brought from the past for us to 'meet'. This fellow below was Deputy Marshall Ed Armorer, known, as most of Judge Isaac Parker's Marshall's were, for capturing murderers and thieves. He was quite an entertaining fellow! (He was looking for stories about himself in those books!)

One of my favorites was Sophie Kannady. She had quite an exciting life, including being captured with her husband by jay hawkers during the Civil War. Sophie Kannady was quite a woman in her day and I've enjoyed reading about her life.I have quite a few more pictures to share with you at another time.

Have a great week!

Hello Everyone

I hope you've all been having a wonderful spring. We've been busy with our garden. I've also had jury duty~which I'm almost through with! And, I've had ALLERGIES! I think this is the worst year I've had with them in a while. I've finally got some medicine that seems to be working. I hope none of you are suffering with them.
Strawberries in a 2x4 bed. I hope to have another one this size if I don't run out of time.

Peppers and a few tomato plants in a 4x4 box.
I also have a 1x8 foot box with six tomato plants in it. I have lettuce, green onions, and carrots planted in other boxes.
We have wire fencing around them temporarily to keep out the cats, dogs, chickens, and rabbits. I think we may be able to keep them on all the time, which will save on losing our produce to the wild kingdom, we hope.

Happy gardening,

R~Mary

Just Checking In~

Hi friends~hope you are all doing well. We have been busy around here. We have one of our garden beds completed and hope to have more done by the end of the week. I also want to start a new herb bed and tear out the old one. Our ground is pretty wet right now, so some things are at a standstill.

My hubby brought home two trailer loads of mulch today~so that will keep us busy for a while!

Well, spring is officially here on the farm. The wild peaches and plums have bloomed, the Dogwoods are starting to bloom and. . .today, Angus, our Labrador/Airedale mix, killed a Water Moccasin! Yikes!! Jackie, our shepherd mix, wanted to help, but we didn't let her get in there and try since Angus was practically stuck in a bunch of brambles while he was killing it. I'd like it to be a better situation for her, so she won't get bit the first time she goes after one.

Hope you are all having a great week!
