Show and Tell Friday!

Good Morning. Welcome to Show and Tell Friday! If you'd like to join in the fun, please link over to Kelli's blog, There Is No Place Like Home. All the details of how to participate are listed for you.

The picture above was taken in the early 1900s. The girl in the picture is a cousin of my grandfather's. I've always loved this photo because of its old-fashioned look. It is hard to see in the picture, but her blouse is very pretty, with a lot of intricate embroidery and cut-work in it.

I have many old photographs taken from the era above and I love to display them in my home. Many of them were taken by my great-great uncle, a photographer that traveled these mountains offering his services to the remote mountain farmers.

I also wanted to share the above picture with you. I do not know exactly who the woman in the picture is. Some long-ago relative, I think. We have speculated that it is the mother of my great-grandmother, as the dating would be about right and the picture belonged to her. The picture is actually a sketch that has been painted with water color type paint. I especially love the frame. All of the carving is done by hand and has some sort of gold leaf or paint inside of it.
I hope you have enjoyed stopping by and will come again!
Have a great day,
RMary

  8. Thanks for sharing these photographs. How special that your grandfather was a photographer. In this day of digital camera we forget what a special thing it was to be able to have a photograph of your loved ones. Yet another thing we take so forgranted today.

  9. I so luv to view nostalgia and to think of the people in such photographs and of the era, what is must have been like living in that time.

Thank you for such a wonderful viewing.

  10. I, too, like old photo's. Sometimes when I go into antique stores, I'll spend WAY too much time, just looking through their old photo's that are piled in boxes. It's also fun to look at our own family's photos and see the same features in the faces of family that are living now.

  21. I am currently into old photos. I have been taking mine to the local copy center and having them copied in black & white... then I paint the copies with some watered down acrylic paint, add some fairy wings and/or glitter etc... its been a lot of fun. If you poke around over at my blog you can see one that I've made into a fairy. She is not finished yet, but you can get an idea of what I'm talking about. If you want to try this as well... make sure you have them copy it as they always have better machines behind the counter lol... it cost a few pennies more, but well worth it! (mine were 8 cents each copy) ~Cheryl

  22. Just found your blog. I love your photos. The very first really old photo I got was given to me by my motherin-law. It is of her mother & father's wedding in 1904. I went out and bought a special vintage-type pewter frame for it and have since collected sooo many more of these lovely olden-type photos. I just love them. Enjoy!
