Wednesday Wives Tales~Worms

We were out looking at our wild plum trees yesterday and saw worms in a few of the plums~which made me many old wives tales are about worms? Most seem to involve getting worms, LOL!

1. If you eat too much sugar, worms will grown in your stomach.

2. Eating a hair from a horses forelock will cure worms (Yuck!).

3. You will grow worms in your stomach if you go to bed hungry.

4. You will get worms if you eat raw potatoes.

5. The thirteen bands on a woolly worm allow you to predict the weather for winter.

6. Eating boiled onions cures stomach worms.

7. A lot of worms on the ground is a sign of rain. (I looked this up and it is true).

There are many more old beliefs about worms. Do you know any old wives tales about worms?

  1. I don't know if I know any wives tales about worms or not. Except maybe the one about the inch worm. If one is crawling up you, it means he's measuring you for a new garment. Mom always told us that when we were little.

  2. RM,
I posted pictures of my rag rugs and a bit of how to info. "Like I know what I'm doing". HA

  3. Biting into an apple and finding a worm isn't as bad as biting into an apple and finding half of a worm!

  4. I've heard the one about the worm predicting the winter weather. I don't think I've heard any of the others.

  5. I've heard if you play in the dirt you'll get worms-but that couldn't be true or my girls would be eat up : ) Neat post!

  6. I had to laugh at this, Rose Mary- I always heard growing up that eating too much sweet stuff would give you worms! (Now at least I know the cures! LOL) The horses hair- I think I'll pass on that one!
